Saturday, Jen & I shot our first weddings apart :( I was lucky enough to get to shoot Mindy & Tae's reception. I've been looking forward to this wedding since way back in September, when I first met them. They are honestly, 2 of THE nicest people I have ever met. Both super upbeat, genuinely happy people - and very much in love. When we shot their engagement session in October, it was so easy to see these 2 were totally meant for eachother - just watching them interact made me smile. Not to mention, they were naturals in front of the camera :)
Mindy & Tae were married in April on a cruise [that I was sort of invited to come along on, but couldn't due to prior wedding obligations... that I am, ahem, not bitter about]. So, there was no real pressure on Saturday's "wedding", because the serious stuff had already gone down. We just got to take some photos and have some fun! I'd pre-selected a spot for the couples formal shots, we were all set to meet them there, and as Sarah and I pulled up we both said "Wait... is that... are those... police? Is that a fire truck? What is going on?" Kid you not, the spot I'd wanted to use - a particular building downtown was swarming with police, fire trucks, pretty sure we even saw a SWAT van. Not entirely sure what was happening, never even saw anything on the news, but whatever it was, it forced us to think on our feet and find a new locale for photos. Luckily, the couple was running behind, which gave Sarah & I ample time to scope new locations. Phew.
The reception was held at Discovery World, and can I just say - all brides & grooms going forward, please have your reception at buildings made entirely of glass.... I can't tell you how wonderful it was having light from all directions. Lovely. Unreal, actually.
Overall, a fun night, great couple and SUCH a nice family. I imagine some pretty wicked dancing went down after we left... hopefully someone can hook me up with a FB link to those pics ;)
Congrats again guys - enjoy your preview... and we'll see you soooooon.
oh, Mindy - you are lovely.
Tae - you clean up quite nicely.
I love how happy Mindy looks in all her photos. Genuine, not cheesy.
check out those blue shoes. loooooooooove.
I also appreciated that Discovery World kinda looks like a cruise ship -
made me feel almost like I was there on the cruise... yeah, I said ALMOST.
look at this light!
Mindy's mom & grandpa - adorable
cake by The Cake Lady - very cool, and yummy.
umm, Tae was just a little bit excited about being married -
his entire grand march entrance was out of control, this is only a piece of it
first dance...
choreographed, of course.
I love this shot [by Sarah]
Tae's mom was wearing a traditional Korean dress - it was gorgeous
impromptu kiddo conga line
Mindy's parents cut a rug
just a smidge of the skyline at night.
And, as we were packing up to go, the DJs [Sound by Design - check them out!] put on a Lady Gaga song, and I kid you not, people started going BANANAS. Luckily, we were able to grab our cameras and catch a few danced shots, like this one of Tae:
Tae, I hope you weren't sore from this the next day. yowzas.
